US President Barack Obama will be receiving the Nobel Peace Prize on December 10, 2009 . Currently he is labeled as a ‘'war president' due to the recent announcement of sending 30,000 more U.S troops to Afghanistan to combat in the on-going war against terrorism.
Asked whether the President would accept the prize as a ‘war president’, White House spokesman, Robert Gibbs replied saying "Exactly. He is accepting the Nobel Peace Prize as a war President."This confirms that the President Obama will certainly incorporate issues in respect of sending additional troops to Afghanistan.
Gibbs said that Obama will address directly the notion that many have speculated that there will be a coincidence of the timing for the Nobel Peace Prize and his commitment to add more troops into Afghanistan. Obviously Obama will have to address the situation wherein he is forced to plan for additional troops for deployment in Afghanistan at this time he is receiving the popular Nobel.
Obama would have been selected for Nobel with less than nine months into the high position and the coveted Prize may be too early for him. I pray that we in India should not look down up on him and the honour. Let us ignore that Nobel committee inadvertently elevated him by over looking the fundamental nature of what makes a man frail. But now he should not think of anything else other than winning here afterwards, as he has already won the Nobel! It was fine that he unassumingly commended that he will accept this award as a call to action- a call for all nations to confront the common challenges of the 21st century. The surprised and deeply humbled Obama had said that he has viewed the Peace Prize as a way to give impetus to broadly shared aspirations.
Robert Gibbs boldly but rightly said that Obama is a 'war president'. The world should know that the elimination of terror is important and inevitable. It is the manifestation of god that U.S has to take lead and quash terror in Afghanistan. Obama will courageously declare that the war in Afghan is for International Peace.
